What is Resin Figure/ Garage Kits (GK) Figure?

GK is an abbreviation for Garage Kits. In some cases, Garage Kits are also known as Resin Kits. They are usually referring as assembly of scale model kit using Polyurethane Resin. Polyurethane is commonly used to produce rigid, durable, and high-resilience products. These products include belts, wheels and tires for elevator, escalator, shopping cart, etc. Thanks to its high elasticity and performance, it is used as the material for condoms and hoses as well.

GK is used in the modelling of the figures, collectibles, models, status, etc. In most cases, they are used for Anime, Superheroes, Characters, or any other artworks. The production of GK figures and collectibles can be very time consuming. The manufacturer/ artist will need to produce the mold and handmade each of the parts. This process includes fabrication, sanding, crafting, brushing, painting, and assembly of the parts. Due to all these factors, GK figure can be very expensive compared to their counterpart, PVC. Besides, due to the time required to produce a unit of figure, most of the GK Figures are produces with a very limited number of units. The limited number of units has also contributed to the high price of GK Figures. For some of the popular figures, the price may fetch up to a few thousand dollars per unit. Not to mention, some of the figures has appreciation values. Meaning to say that, the Collectors may make some profit by selling their Pre-owned GK figure to another Collector.

GK Figure can be in any sizes and scales. These includes 1/8, 1/7, 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 1:1 etc. The larger scales are 1/4 - 1:1; and the prices for these figures can be a lot more expensive. The higher price was due to the amount of materials required as well as time spent to produce the figure. Figures with a smaller scale or size can be as cheap as tens of dollars. Unlike the bigger scale figures, these smaller scale figures are mostly mass produced from the factory and with less to no appreciation value. Most of the GK Figures are designed to have multiple parts and a base to form a single GK Figure. Some of the GK Figures even offered with exchangeable parts. For example, the blade in the figure’s hand can be exchanged with a gun.

GK Figure has no stranger to the figure collectors around the world. Some of the most popular GK Figure or collections today are from Japanese Anime (Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, Black Clover, Naruto, One Punch Man, Death Note, Shingeki no Kyojin, Sword Art Online, My Hero Academia, Bleach, One Piece) and fictional Superheroes/ Characters (Marvel - Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Black Widow, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Deadpool, Thanos and etc. DC Comics - Superman, Joker, Batman, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and etc).
